International Graphic Communication Week at California Polytechnic State University, more commonly known as Cal Poly, in San Luis Obispo is dedicated to print and design industry professionals from all over the country, sharing their knowledge to prospective students. Larry Griffin, WS Packaging Group general manager of our San Luis Obispo facility, and I were honored to be presenters.
Larry spoke about the new and innovative printing techniques used to create wine and spirits labels. Students at Cal Poly study both label design and print production, which tied in perfectly with Larry’s presentation. Our San Luis Obispo facility proudly collaborates with Cal Poly’s students every year to print the University’s branded wine and cheese labels, as well as offering facility tours. These opportunities give students real-life experiences in digital and flexographic processes and in the unique finishing features used in the printing industry.
As the DesignMax™ manager in Marketing for WS Packaging Group, I shared my work experiences in the areas of creative design and prepress. As a Cal Poly alumnus, I provided key and relevant advice on job opportunities in the print industry and the educational benefits that had a significant impact on my career at WS Packaging.
In this ever-evolving industry, it is key to collaborate with other industry professionals and students. We were honored to represent our company alongside a few of our supply partners such as Adobe, Mark Andy, and Hewlett-Packard (HP®). We appreciate Cal Poly giving us the opportunity to be included in their International Graphic Communication Week.
